Barcelona, San Sebastián, and Paris in two weeks

It has been a busy couple weeks since we returned from our spring vacation to Spain and France, so I’m just catching up on the blog now. In April, we spent a lovely two weeks touring through Barcelona, San Sebastián, and Paris, capped off with a one day pass through London.

As I was travelling while pregnant, I tried not to over plan this trip lest the queasiness and fatigue kicked back in. I’m glad we travelled during my second trimester, as the first 3-4 months in my condition were quite awful and I would not have been able to enjoy many of the culinary delights that we intended to try while we were away. I did have to skip a few of the staples like unpasteurized cheese and cured meats (and of course I had to be a teetotaler), but was still able to enjoy a nice foodie holiday.

Here is what we ended up doing.

Day 1: Barcelona

Arrival in Barcelona. Walked around Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter. Visited Casa Batllo and La Sagrada Familia.

Day 2: Barcelona

Food tour in El Born and Barceloneta. Afternoon at the Picasso Museum and Ciutadella Park.

Day 3: Barcelona

Trekked the hill up to Park Guell. Tasting menu lunch at Disfrutar. Took the funicular up to Mount Tibidabo.

Day 4: San Sebastián

Flight to San Sebastián. Evening pintxos food tour in Old Town.

Day 5: San Sebastián

Walked along Playa de la Concha. Visited Miramar Palace gardens. Dinner at Narru.

Day 6: San Sebastián

Strolled through Gros neighbourhood. Wandered around Old Town and ate lots of pintxos.

Day 7: San Sebastián

Rode the funicular up Mount Igueldo. Evening walk along Paseo Nuevo.

Day 8: Paris

Flight to Paris. Evening food tour in Montmartre. Night time visit up the Eiffel Tour.

Day 9: Paris

Morning visit to Trocadero for daytime Eiffel Tower views. Seine River sightseeing cruise. Walked along Champs Élysées and stopped to see the Arc de Triomphe. Evening show at Moulin Rouge.

Day 10: Paris

Day trip to Palace of Versailles.

Day 11: Paris

Day trip to Giverny to see Monet House.

Day 12: Paris-London

Morning at the Louvre. Final look at Paris and then caught the evening Eurostar train to London. Dinner at Dishoom.

Day 13: London

Visited the Wallace Collection gallery for their Portraits of Dogs exhibit and had cream tea for breakfast. Shopped around Fortnum & Mason. Went for a swim and relaxed at the hotel in the afternoon. Dinner again at Dishoom.

Day 14: London-Toronto

Return home to Toronto.

Once I get myself organized, I’ll share some more detailed posts on our trip!
