One spring day in London

After two weeks touring Barcelona, San Sebastián, and Paris, we ended our spring vacation in London, England. We had originally planned this visit in order to attend an Arsenal match, but alas, were unsuccessful in procuring tickets yet again.

We had visited London just seven months prior and had done many of the usual touristy things already, so ended up just spending a leisurely day in the city this time around.

We had arrived the previous evening via the Eurostar train from Paris and had a delicious Indian dinner at Dishoom. The next morning, we went out to explore a bit of the Marylebone district, where we were staying. We were in London during yet another historic event, with the streets decked out in preparation for King Charles’ upcoming coronation.

We found out about the Wallace Collection museum located around the corner from our hotel, and discovered that they had a special exhibit of dog portraits. We were missing our little dog Gizmo so we were very excited to check this out.

The exhibit featured a small collection of paintings, drawings, sculptures, and taxidermy (!) highlighting the history of dog portraiture in Britain.

Afterward, we went upstairs to the museum cafe and enjoyed a classic English cream tea, which we had been craving since our visit to the Cotswolds last fall.

In the afternoon, we went shopping at Fortnum & Mason for tea and then picked up lunch at Ottolenghi. We returned to our hotel for a swim in the pool, and returned to Dishoom again for dinner in the evening.

That was a wrap on our short time in London. We flew home the next day, and have spent that last few months preparing for and welcoming home our baby. Soon it will be time to start planning some travel with the little guy!

  1. I’ve been to London many times but never visited or even heard of the Wallace Collection museum – it looks like a fun place to check out. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

  2. You certainly don’t waste time! What fun finding that exhibition. (I imagine Gizmo was very happy to see you back.) English cream tea is such a treat and wandering through Fortnum’s always interesting. A friend of mine worked there as a young lad…a few years ago!

  3. I’ve heard of the Wallace Collection, but I’ve never been; I’m a huge dog lover, so I’ll have to go the next time I’m in London! I honestly prefer cream tea over afternoon tea, as I love scones! Glad this was a fun trip, and I look forward to more adventures from you (and your baby) soon!

  4. There’s always something else to do in London, the big tourist sites are often too crowded but fortunately there are plenty of other places, often you just have to walk the streets to be drawn to something. It will certainly be interesting to adapt to the new way of traveling.

    1. Now that I’ve seen all the big tourist sites it will be nice to return to London again and go off the beaten path.

  6. Thank you for the quick tour. We had to cancel our trip to London back in 2020 for the well-known reasons lol and never had a chance to plan it again.. so far.
Congrats for the new addition in your family! Enjoy the special moments with the little one🙂
