Christmas in New York City is a magical time. If it weren’t for the pandemic, I would have loved to make another trip there this year. The last time we visited the Big Apple was back in 2017, when we stayed for a week in early December, right on time to enjoy the beginning of holiday season.
New York City was actually home of the first Christmas tree to be decorated with electric lights, when engineer and vice president of the Edison Electric Company, Edward Hibberd Johnson, decked out his tree with 80 red, white, and blue bulbs in his townhouse on East 36th Street in 1882.
Christmas trees remain a staple of winter decor in the city. From window displays on Fifth Avenue to the iconic Norway Spruce at Rockefeller Center, there is no shortage of trees to see in celebration of the year end holiday.
