On this day: Chicago Architecture River Cruise

See more from my On This Day series here, where I celebrate travel memories on their trip anniversaries.

On April 8, 2018, I was aboard the Chicago Architecture River Cruise.

Following a morning exploring Millennium Park and seeing The Bean, we spent our afternoon on the much hyped Chicago Architecture River Cruise.

This boat cruise aboard the First Lady is hosted by the Chicago Architecture Foundation, taking visitors on a tour past 50 buildings set adjacent to the Chicago River. It is led by highly knowledgeable volunteers who share stories about these iconic buildings dotting the cityscape, recounting the rise of Chicago from a small settlement to one of the world’s largest cities in less than 100 years.

The cruise is certainly popular. It is the top rated Chicago attraction listed on multiple travel blogs and forums — and you can even catch a glimpse of it during a scene from my favourite movie set in Chi-Town.

Unfortunately, we visited the city in the midst of a cold spell, so it was quite brisk on the deck and difficult to stay outside — hence, my shortage of photos. However, I’m still glad we went and didn’t let the moment pass us by
