Fall in full bloom at Don Valley Brick Works, Toronto

I’ve shared some fall colours from High Park and Trinity Bellwoods Park so far this season. Over the weekend, we ventured further afield to Don Valley Brick Works to enjoy some more autumn foliage.

Don Valley Brick Works, also referred to as the Evergreen Brick Works, is a former quarry and industrial site located in the Don River Valley in Midtown Toronto. The area operated for nearly 100 years as a production facility for bricks that were used to construct many well-known Toronto landmarks, including Casa Loma, Osgoode Hall, Massey Hall, and the Ontario Legislature.

The site was expropriated by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority in 1987, and the quarry was eventually converted into a city park including a series of naturalized ponds and surrounding meadow. The Beltline Trail, along the path of the old Toronto Belt Line Railway, passes by the Brick Works.

The easy hike will take you by the Evergreen Brick Works Saturday Farmers Market, set up outdoors from May to November and dog friendly. Gizmo approved!

  2. It is a great place to watch nature change, especially from the top of Governors Monument hill, there is a bird’s eye view of meadows, ponds and forests.

      1. Don Valley has several interesting places, such as Todmorden Mills. It’s also a way to get free parking to walk in the Evergreen park nearby.

  6. Fall is certainly in the air for you in Toronto! Here in LA, it’s still a toss-up with some parts being full-on autumn, whereas others still feel like summertime…your walk with Gizmo is so cute and with a stunning backdrop!
